Hello from Sawrey (Miss Potter village)

Far Sawrey lies in rolling farmland and wooded hillsides above Lake Windermere. It is the area where the "Miss Potter" film is based upon. This is a blog from the village shop, which is not dis-similar to the Beatrix Potter Ginger and Pickles Shop here in the heart of the village where Beatrix Potter lived and wrote her world famous stories including "The Tale of Peter Rabbit"

Friday

Good morning...its a dry start to the day here...a customer picking up his papers this morning was pleased to report that he had seen a red squirrel down the lane. Benny is not at the shop today, its his birthday (10) so mother has taken his for his favourite walk along the shore of the lake. The local newspaper headline today is about many of our local hospital's services been moved to Barrow or Lancaster. That seems like a long way to travel from the heart of the lake district in an emergency! Have taken delivery of a new range of baking sundries today, its nice to see dried fruit that is unsulphered and cherries that are not bright red. There was an article in the paper earlier in the week regarding the pattern on the tins of treacle and golden syrup, saying that it is the only product never to have changed over the years! Well it looks great on the shelves here I have to say.
Will take a picture of the new stock and try to post it......

Walks

Moss Eccles Tarn is just a short walk from Far Sawrey. It was here that Beatrix Potter spent many an hour fishing - from a rowing boat that can now be seen at the Steamboat Museum at Windermere. It is thought that the water lilies on Moss Eccles inspired the story of Jeremy Fisher. Beatrix Potter bought part of the tarn in 1926, and on her death is was given to the National Trust. At nearby Claife Heights, is Claife Station, built in the 1790s - a viewpoint where visitors can look at Lake Windermere. It was most fashionable with tourists in the 1830s and 40s and is still a stunning place to view Lake Windermere. Pop into the shop and we will give you information about more beautiful walks around the village

Welcome to Sawrey Stores in the village of Far sawrey. Today is bread day, the aroma of fresh bread has filled the shop and it smells lush, a local chef has been out pickimg mushrooms and has brought in a bag of fresh field mushrooms, they are the most unlikely looking mushrooms! The newspaper headlines all focus on a woman who has blackmailed a pair of rampant judges! Wonders never cease! I have bought a card reader this week so I will be able to take pictures and post them regularly. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read this blog. Hope to see you in Far Sawrey soon
